Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. Our eyes are one of the first things you look at when you look at a face, along with the area around the mouth. Commonly asked questions are “Doctor can you do something about my tired eyes?” which usually means: “Can you make me look more youthful again, but not too different”!
Eyelid correction is a seemingly simple operation but requires a very thorough knowledge of aesthetics, anatomy and technique. Older techniques caused a dull or expressionless gaze, in which the shape of the eyes changed or became too tight, the look eroded, the eyes could not be fully closed, and so on.
Modern blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery has two main goals: restoring the tightness of the skin and restoring the filling around the eyes, thereby making the peri-orbital region look youthful. After all, a large part of the aging process consists of melting away the subcutaneous fat. That is why we almost always combine the removal of the weakened skin with the filling of the cavity around the eyes. To do this, we use lipofilling, your own fat, which offers a safe and permanent solution to this problem, employing the novel technique of “Augmentation Blepharoplasty”!
This modern eyelid correction has many advantages:
- The techniques are less intrusive, and therefore safer
- The recovery is faster, the adverse effects less frequent, and above all
- The result looks much more natural. That’s why we ask you to bring some photos from the age of 20-35 years. We then see what has changed, and what exactly we need to be restore (and how much) in order to find your youthful eyes again!
