Q: How long will I have to wear a splint or cast after the surgery?

Answer

  • In some cases, the surgeon may choose to use a double splint, which is applied from inside and outside of the nose. The internal splint is a silicon prosthesis placed intranasally or is bolstered to the nasal sidewall while outside, it is either a Plaster of Paris splint or a thermoplastic splint which helps to keep the nasal septum as well as dorsum in place and prevent any excessive movement that could cause damage to the newly reshaped nose. The cast is typically removed by the end of one week after surgery.
It’s important to follow the surgeon’s instructions for aftercare, which will include the use of the splint or cast, and to avoid any activity that could cause trauma to the nose for about 4-6 weeks after surgery.
